Zümrüt

Zümrüt is the Ottoman Turkish word for emerald, and this design earns every letter of the name. A structured arrangement of gilded geometric cartouches flanks a central mihrab whose interior glows with the deep, veined green of rare marble- evoking the imperial treasury rooms of the Topıkapı Palace. The border panels are disciplined and architectural, each one a miniature study in Ottoman symmetry: scrollwork, six-pointed stars, and arabesque flourishes in warm gold on midnight black. The Zümrüt speaks to a tradition of Islamic design that valued structure as much as ornament- the meeting point of the mathematical and the divine.
